Collection and Recycling Arrangements in the Netherlands

Hologic does not have a sales office or approved distributor in the Netherlands. Instead, Hologic products are sold directly to business end-users in the Netherlands from sales offices in other Member States.

Selling products directly to an end-user in another Member State is known as 'distance selling'. The WEEE Regulations in the Netherlands state that Hologic is not responsible for WEEE arising from distance sales of business products directly to the business end-user in the Netherlands. Instead, it is the business end-user's responsibility to ensure the following:

  • The WEEE Authority, SenterNovem, is notified of Hologic products for which the customer is responsible under distance sales arrangements.
  • Hologic products which are bought through distance selling arrangements are managed in an environmentally responsible manner at end of life.

However, Hologic has decided to provide the following service in the Netherlands:

  • Prior to a sale in the Netherlands, Hologic will notify SenterNovem of Hologic products sold in to customers in the Netherlands via distance sales, on behalf of its customers
  • WEEE collection and recycling arrangements on behalf of its customers in the Netherlands*.
  • *Note: Where the instrument you are sending for recycling is being replaced by another Hologic system, Hologic will also compensate you for the cost of transportation. This will covered by offering a reduction in the cost or rental of the new system that is equal to the cost of transport.

Hologic provides arrangements for the collection and recycling of the following equipment:

  • Any electrical and electronic equipment that you bought fromHologic before August 13th 2005 (referred to as Historic WEEE), which is being replaced by a new piece of equipment bought fromHologic; and
  • Any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy fromHologic after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste (referred to as New WEEE).

For any other waste electrical and electronic equipment bought before August 13th 2005 which is being replaced by an item ofHologic electrical and electronic equipment, the environmentally sound disposal of this other equipment is the customers responsibility.

Hologic products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Hologic is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products, Hologic has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address.

Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs is:

  • Hologic pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE
  • you pay for transportation of your WEEE to Hologic's appointed recycler in the Netherlands.

Hologic has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN recycling facility in the Netherlands. All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Hologic products is classed as non-hazardous waste.

It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the recycler. In order to meet the requirements for waste disposal as stipulated by the Environmental Management Act 2004, you should use one of the following carriers (which hold a valid Waste Carriers licence):

In order to help EARN identify Hologic equipment upon arrival at the recycler's address, please download the Recycling Label for Dutch Customers. Complete the label with your company details and attach it to a suitable box for transport to EARN.
