Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Luxembourg
Hologic does not have a sales office or approved distributor in Luxembourg. Instead, Hologic products are sold directly to business end-users in Luxembourg from sales offices in other Member States.
Selling products directly to an end-user in another Member State is known as 'distance selling'. The WEEE Regulations in Luxembourg state that Hologic is not responsible for WEEE arising from distance sales of business products directly to the business end-user in Luxembourg. Instead, it is the business end-user's responsibility to ensure that products which they buy through distance selling arrangements are managed in an environmentally responsible manner at end of life.
However, Hologic has decided to register as a WEEE producer in Luxembourg and provide WEEE collection and recycling on behalf of its customers in Luxembourg.
Under Regulation 013/2005 for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) which came into force on January 18th 2005, for equipment that you buy from Hologic after August 13th 2005, Hologic is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Hologic replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Luxembourg WEEE Regulations, Hologic is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Hologic after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
Hologic products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Hologic is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products, Hologic has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address.
Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs is:
*Note: Where the instrument you are sending for recycling is being replaced by another Hologic system, Hologic will also compensate you for the cost of transportation. This will covered by offering a reduction in the cost or rental of the new system that is equal to the cost of transport.
Hologic has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN recycling facility in Belgium. All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Hologic products is classed as non-hazardous waste.
It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the recycler. In order to meet waste regulations in Luxembourg, you should use one of the following carriers (which will hold a valid Waste Carriers licence prior to producer take-back obligations beginning in Luxembourg):
For larger quantities of waste, you may want to contact the recycler directly to arrange and pay for alternative collection methods. The EARN recycling facility in Luxembourg is:
To comply with the Luxembourg waste transport regulations the transport of your waste to the recycler must be accompanied by suitable documentation.
In order to comply with this legislation and to enable EARN to identify Hologic equipment upon arrival at the recycler's address, please download the Recycling Label for Luxembourger Customers. Complete the label with your company details and attach it to a suitable box for transport to EARN.
