Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Italy
Under the Italian Decree to implement 2002/96/EC Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive which came into force on August 13th 2005, for equipment that you buy from Hologic after August 13th 2005, Hologic is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. This is providing the weight of the old equipment is less than double that of the new purchase. The old equipment that your new purchase from Hologic replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Decree, Hologic is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Hologic after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
Hologic products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Hologic is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products, Hologic has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address.
Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs is:
*Note: Where the instrument you are sending for recycling is being replaced by another Hologic system, Hologic will also compensate you for the cost of transportation. This will covered by offering a reduction in the cost or rental of the new system that is equal to the cost of transport.
Hologic has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN recycling facility in Italy. All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Hologic products is classed as non-hazardous waste.
It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the recycler. In order to meet Italian regulations for waste disposal, you should use one of the following carriers (which hold a valid Waste Carriers licence):
For larger quantities of waste you may wish to contact the recycler directly in order to arrange and pay for an alternative collection method. The EARN recycling facility in Italy is:
To comply with Italian Waste Transport Regulations all WEEE must be accompanied by suitable documentation when transported to the recycler. In order to comply with this regulation and to enable EARN to identify Hologic equipment upon arrival at the recycler's address, please download the Recycling Label for Italian Customers. Complete the label with your company details and attach it to a suitable box for transport to EARN.
